'Daredevil' Season 1 Review

Non Spoiler Review- A thrilling adventure that shows loose connections to the Marvel Cinematic Universe but also distances itself from the MCU by focusing on the events taking place inside Hell's Kitchen. This show has 'Captain America The Winter Soldier' level fighting choreography on a television budget making it the best fight choreography on any superhero television show currently. the acting is great and the two standout performance are definitely Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, Daredevil, and Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, Kingpin. These two characters both are really compelling to watch on screen and I hope they are given the opportunity to appear in future Marvel films. I read in interviews all of the preparation Charlie Cox went into to prepare for the role and I was very impressed and you can tell that he worked to portray a blind man accurately. The supporting cast also does quite well and delivers some great performances. Foggy Nelson however does seem quite awkward in the world of Hell's Kitchen, given his campiness in the first few episodes but I adjusted to the character in later episodes. I can't wait to see the next Marvel Netflix offerings that will be released and their culmination of 'The Defenders'.

*******There will be Spoilers from this point on*******

I was very conflicted as to how I should review 'Daredevil' because I wanted to review it episode by episode but felt that it didn't seem right given that all episodes were released at once and I watched groups of episodes together in a binge like fashion. So I decided to review the season/series as a whole and will include my top 10 highlights throughout the season as well as compiling the easter eggs featured in the series.

Highlights of the season

1. The Origin- The origin was transferred from comic book to Netflix perfectly. This scene was a flashback at the very beginning of the first episode that actually made me cry and was the only scene of the series to do so.
2. Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock- As I stated earlier Charlie Cox was incredible as Matt Murdock and put in a lot of research into becoming the character.
3. "The Man Without Fear"- The ninja suit Daredevil begins the series with is clearly inspired by the Frank Miller suit seen above. I liked this suit despite it's simplicity.
4. Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin- Again as stated earlier D'Onofrio embodies the role of Wilson Fisk and I hope he will return in the MCU in future movies or television.
5. Kingpin Origin- i thought Kingpin's origin was very interesting and made his character quite compelling. I liked the inner conflict inside of Fisk.
6. Nelson & Murdock- The relationship between these two best friends is another enjoyable part of the series that was captured perfectly.
7. The Action- The best part of the series is arguably the action because the fight choreography is complex and fun to watch.
8. Kingpin kills Ben Urich- this was one twist that caught me by surprise and ruined our chances of Urich working at the Daily Bugle in a future 'Spider-Man' MCU film.
9. Kingpin captured- Another interesting way to end the series/season. It also tease Kingpin will wear white as he does in the comics from now on.
10. The Classic Red Suit- it was nice to see the classic red Daredevil suit on screen. It is slightly altered as it doesn't have "DD" on the chest and is more of an armored variant but I'd prefer armor to spandex.

Easter Eggs

Screen Rant has published an article with the major easter eggs seen in 'Daredevil' if you are curious in seeing them all. I will discuss the major easter eggs that tie in with the MCU. http://screenrant.com/daredevil-netflix-easter-eggs-spoilers/

MCU Movie Easter Egg

1. Ben Urich's Articles- In the background you can see two articles referring to the events of  'The Avengers' and 'The Incredible Hulk'. Also the battle of New York is mentioned several times and is the reason kingpin is able to rebuild his version of Hell's Kitchen.

Agents of SHIELD connections

1. Crusher Creel- It is revealed that Crusher Creel (aka the Absorbing Man) who appeared on 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' was the last person to fight Jack Murdock in flashbacks and because Jack chose to win for Matt lead to Jack's death.
2. St. Agnes Orphanage- The orphanage matt Murdock went to is the same orphanage Skye went to so it's quite possible the two may know one another.

Stan Lee cameo

Stan Lee has a subtle cameo in the background pictured as one of the NYPD officers.

Future MCU Characters teased

1. Iron Fist- The mark on the heroine sold refers to one of the villainous organizations Iron Fist fights and Iron Fist will have his own Netflix series soon.
2. Electra- Matt and Foggy speak about a greek girl. This may refer to Electra who is one of Daredevil's love interests and heavily connected to the character so it's possible she could appear in a second season.
