'The Flash' Season 2 Episode 5 'The Darkness and the Light' Review

Non Spoiler Review-  Another terrific episode of 'The Flash' that blended all the subplots cohesively and spreading screen time among the ensemble cast rather than focusing on one individual as can be the case sometimes. The show continues get better and better each week and I'm eagerly anticipating Barry's first confrontation with Zoom next week.

Highlights of the episode

1. Vibe- This episode was  a huge progression of Cisco officially becoming Vibe. Harrison Wells reveals to Team Flash that Cisco has powers because he has a device that can detect other meta humans so it was interesting to see them react positively and be supportive of Cisco. I also liked that Cisco was officially given the name of Vibe. I can't wait to see him learn more about his powers and see him use them.

2. Earth 2 Harrison Wells- Harrison Wells was an interesting aspect of the episode. I liked that learning to trust Jay helped Barry not be as defensive and be reasonable in realizing that this Harrison Wells is a different person. I liked that the team initially were worried about him but gained trust throughout the episode. I also liked to see that he and Jay were at odds with each other because of their history in Earth 2 and I'm interested to see that dynamic further explored.

3. Flash creates speed mirages- Barry gains control over a new power in this episode learning how to make speed mirages which we have seen previously used by the Reverse Flash in Season One so it was great to see him learn this new ability and use it effectively to defeat Doctor Light. I always like seeing Barry have to go faster or use a new power to defeat a villain. 

4. Barry's "Blind Date" with Patty- I thought Barry's literal blind date was hilarious and love the chemistry between Barry and Patty on the show and like every scene they share together. I'm curious to see if he will soon reveal that he is the Flash to Patty given that he has a tendency to tell everyone close to hm eventually.

5. Kendra Saunders introduced- I liked how Kendra Saunders was introduced to the show to help set up 'Legends of Tomorrow' and can't wait to see her as Hawkgirl onscreen.

6. Zoom has Well's daughter- At the end of the episode we see that Zoom has Well's daughter captive so I wonder if that was Well's incentive to go to the Flash for assistance and if Zoom is using Wells as a pawn with his daughter as leverage.
