Non spoiler Overview- Overall not the best episode of 'Agents of S.H.I.E.LD.' but it is definitely one of the better episodes and manages to answer a few of the questions left over from the season finale as well as ignore one. There are plenty welcome additions to the cast and the returning cast performs well. This season premiere was much better than the series premiere last year and proved they can maintain the high quality that the later half of Season One episodes managed to bring.
Setup for expansion to the Marvel Cinematic Universe- The intro of the episode includes a flashback to 1945 that features Peggy Carter and the Howling Commandos storming one of the remaining Hydra bases and obtaining the first 084 the Obelisk, an object that is very important in the plot of the episode. This manages to help setup the upcoming series 'Agent Carter' that will explore the beginning of S.HI.E.L.D. and follow the events of 'Captain America The First Avenger' and the Marvel One-Shot about Agent Carter. This show will premiere in January while 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' is on hiatus.*******There will be Spoilers from this point on*******
Highlights of the episode
1. We learn what happened to Fitz- Sadly Fitz suffered brain damage and has trouble thinking, completing his sentences and talks to himself because he imagines Simmons is still there to help him. And we learn that Simmons left because she thought it would help Fitz.
2. Coulson's team steals a Quinjet- Definitely my favorite scene of the episode with a cool voice over from Coulson and a well shot scene of May, Skye, and Triplett running from the government agents. It's cool that the team not has a new toy.
3. The Absorbing Man- It's nice to see that they're using more comic book villains and it was cool to see his poweres on screen. He may not have spoken much but he had some cool action sequences.
4. 084 Facility- This reminded me of the warehouse in Indiana Jones where they keep artifacts, etc. I thought it was a neat inclusion to the episode.
5. Skye Interrogates Ward for intel- It was interesting to see their relationship somewhat further explored, and interesting to know Ward has tried harming himself in his isolation. I hope Ward is able to eventually tell Skye about her father though.
