'Arrow' Season 2 Episode 16 'Suicide Squad' Review

This is very late but decided to post this anyways. I feel as though this was one of the more interesting episodes this season but a little underwhelming Im excited to see what's in store.

*******There will be Spoilers from this point on*******

The episode begins with Oliver having a bad dream. He reaches out to his Russian mobster friend. He wants to know what Alexi knows about Slade. Alexi wants a favor from Oliver before he will help him. Oliver is not in the mood to give out favors, so he takes down a couple of Alexi’s men and then insists that the Russian look into Slade’s whereabouts.
Meanwhile Diggle is watching  Felicity’s house, because he is worried Slade might try to hurt her to get at Oliver. She comes out and gives him a cup of cocoa to say thanks. Digg’s girlfriend/ex-wife, Lyla, is back in town after a mission  so she calls Diggle to her hotel room .
Flashback time, only not to the island. Instead, we are  in Afghanistan when Diggle was in the military with Lyla. Their platoon is protecting some civilians. and they discover a Afghan drug lord, Golem Qadir, hiding out with the civilians and arrest him.
Back in the present Digg and Lyla run into Amanda Waller, who needs their help. Qadir, who was released from prison a few years ago, has acquired a very dangerous nerve agent. She wants to send in a team lead by Diggle. Waller introduces Digg to his “team.” Deadshot, Bronze Tiger and Shrapnel walk out. Deadshot says, “This isn’t a team. Let’s call it what it is. Welcome to the Suicide Squad.” He seems apprehensive about this team but reluctantly decides to do it.
Meanwhile, Oliver is worried about Slade, but Felicity convinces him to go out to stop a bank robbery. As he is tying up the robbers, we see Slade watching in the background, wearing his Deathstroke mask. Oliver seems to be able to sense he is there and investigates. He finds the mask with an arrow through the eye , but no Slade.
Back to the Afghanistan. Qadir is bound and is talking to Diggle when snipers try to shoot the group. Digg saves  Qadir by throwing him on the ground.  Digg shoots the sniper, who turns out to be a young boy.
Now Diggle’s Suicide Squad is in place and Diggle “accidentally” runs into Qadir. Qadir tells Diggle that Diggle changed his life when he saved him. He just wants to pay back for all the bad things he did earlier in life. Just then, Deadshot fires a bullet that narrowly misses Diggle.
Shrapnel then decides he doesn't want to be part of the team any more. He bolts to what he thinks is freedom in Markovia. But, Amanda Waller  activates a bomb embedded in Shrapnel’s head and kills him. He want that great of a character anyways and was the least interesting. Still, the plan works and Diggle gets an invitation to a private party at Qadir’s mansion.
In Starling City, Alexi gives Oliver some bank account info on Slade.  Alexi says he will never help Oliver again after this and Oliver seems ok with this.  Felicity uses the bank account to find out where Slade is hanging out. She wants to get Roy and Sara to go with Oliver, but Ollie says he doesn't want Slade to have other targets. When he arrives, Slade is nowhere to be found. But, Alexi’s dead body is out in the open. He was killed by a single arrow through his eye and his brain.
Oliver goes back to his hideout and finally reaches out to Sara. He does not know what to do because Slade seems to have planned for everything. Oliver is worried Sara will get hurt. She assures him she is strong and says they will be better suited to take down Slade if they work together. Oliver finally agrees.
Back to Markovia, where Diggle takes Lyla as his date to Qadir’s high-security party. They manage to get Deadshot into the party as well. Deadshot’s job is to find the nerve agent and get it out. He finds where it is located, but there is a problem. There is a lot more nerve agent than expected. They tell Amanda they will not be able to carry it out of the building but she does not care. Now that she has confirmed the nerve agent is actually there, she has called in a predator drone strike to destroy the n the building. Lyla and Diggle look around and realize that everyone at Qadir’s party are about to become “collateral damage.”
Diggle and Lyla needs to figure out a way to get everyone out of the house. Digg taps on a glass to get the attention of everyone in the building. He begins to rail against Qadir and tells everyone that there is a nerve agent just feet away from them. The guests scatter as Qadir’s men approach Diggle and Lyla. Diggle heads out to make sure Deadshot is able to get to safety. Qadir pulls a knife on Lyla, but Bronze Tiger is there and quickly kills the bad guy.
Diggle gets to Deadshot but he does not want to leave. He was ordered by Waller to stay and he knows he is expendable.  Diggle brings up Deadshot’s daughter and that convinces Deadshot to go.
But, the drone strike was set to a GPS locator embedded in Deadshot’s head. So, as Deadshot leaves with Tiger, Digg, and Lyla, the drone starts targeting them, instead of the house and the nerve agent. The predator drone actually follows closely behind a car. At the last moment, Lyla gets the GPS out of Deadshot’s head and throws it to the road. The predator blows up the road in an explosion .
Back in the States, Waller tells Digg the mission was a mess. She was able to send in a SEAL team to get rid of the nerve gas but the whole incident has turned into a diplomatic embarrassment for the US. Digg wants no part of working with Waller ever again.
Digg walks Deadshot back to his cell. The two men have come to an uneasy peace. They aren’t enemies anymore.
Oliver goes to see Amanda Waller. They have a history and he tells her that Slade Wilson is alive. She is surprised because she thought Oliver killed Slade years ago. He wants Amanda’s help tracking down Slade. She says there is a special assassin she has been tracking and his name is Deathstroke.
I can't wait for the next few episode although this was a little underwhelming.
