'Agent Carter Season 1 Episode 1 & 2 'Pilot' and 'Bridge and Tunnel' Review

Episode 1 'Pilot'

Non Spoiler Review- This episode kicked the miniseries off with a bang, there was high energy action scenes, interesting humor, and the pilot introduced some new characters to the MCU as well as bringing back some of the old characters from 'Captain America The First Avenger'. This show's pilot was much stronger than 'Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s pilot episode but that's expected since that was Marvel's first foray into television. I'm excited for this mini series and feel that it is a must watch for Marvel fans.

*******There will be Spoilers from this point on*******

Highlights of the episode

1. Peggy Carter- In the pilot, Peggy Carter proves why she is worthy of her own miniseries as she demonstrates her resourcefulness in some cool action sequences, and why we fell in love with the character in the first place.
2. Captain America flashback- I liked that the show included a flashback to the end of 'Captain America The First Avenger' that adds depth to Peggy and her mourning of Cap.
3. Howard Stark needs some help- it was nice to have another actor from one of the Marvel films to interweave the connectivity of the show and make it feel like a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Dominic Cooper isn't in the episode for too long but the show explains why he has to leave since he is a fugitive.
4. Jarvis- Another easter egg was Edwin Jarvis, Howard Stark's butler. He was likely the inspiration for the JARVIS A.I. developed by tony Stark, because I'm sure Tony was practically raised by Jarvis, so he was a father figure to Tony explaining why his A.I. would be modeled after his butler. I do think that Edwin jarvis is a welcome addition to the show and I enjoy his presence.
5. Anton Vanko- It was nice to see another easter egg and some more connective tissue for the Marvel Cinematic Universe with an appearance of Anton Vanko who was the father of Ivan Vanko, Whiplash the villain from 'Iron Man 2'.

Episode 2 'Bridge and Tunnel'

Non Spoiler Review- The second episode builds off the first and once again contains great action scenes and action choreography. It focuses more on Peggy's struggle as a woman in a man's world. I liked the development of Peggy and Jarvis as well as the introduction of the "Captain America's Adventure Hour" element of the show.

*******There will be Spoilers from this point on*******

Highlights of the episode

1. Peggy's gadgets- I liked seeing more of Peggy as a spy and seeing her use different gadgets in her reconnaissance. I'm excited to see more of the spy element of the show in future episodes.
2. "Captain America's Adventure Hour"- I liked how marvel made this miniseries a period piece including a radio show called "Captain America's Adventure Hour" including Cap into the show and showing the legacy he left behind. The coolest action sequence of the episode was one where Peggy was fighting simultaneously while the "Captain America's Adventure Hour" had Captain America saving the fictional woman based on Peggy Carter. I really like this element of the show and hope it will return in future episodes.
3. Peggy finds a roommate- in the first episode Peggy is tracked to her apartment and her roommate is killed so she begins looking for a new place to live and her waitress friend offers her a safe haven. I'm curious how important her friend will become later in the show.
4. Peggy proves herself to men- One of my favorite scenes of the episode was when Peggy realizes who was responsible for the Stark weapon explosion and the SSR agents attempt to chase him down as she easily trips him.
5. Peggy accepts Jarvis as a partner- I liked how towards the end of the episode Peggy decided to let Jarvis assist her in her quest to cleanse Stark's name.
